Monthly Archives: February 2012
I did have a lot of time on my hands this week, but I guess this week was marked by missing a lot of Otaku activities because I had to process a lot of stuff over the last few days. If you guys did not know, I have been completing my application for my Master’s next year, so even if the application procedure is quite simple, it did require me to do a lot things so I was really busy (even busier than I was last week) this week. Nonetheless, I did manage to finish up some cool stuff this week.
1. MANGA: Vampire Knight
2. JDRAMA: First Kiss
3. ANIME: Fairy Tail (Episodes 1-50)
4. SONG/VIDEO: Kimi Ga Iru Kara by Shimokawa Mikuni (Fairy Tail Ending)
So I had Vampire Knights again this week. In fact, I am not even sure how many volumes I read. With the little time that I had I must’ve read only about 1 to 2 volumes of the manga. I know I promised a verdict as soon as I finished it but I found it quite hard to insert reading on a tight schedule this week. However, I do know that I am very neutral about the manga. I kind of like it better than Twilight, but no more than so.
I don’t like the very slow pacing and the very dramatic setup. I also dislike the fact that the story can be quite confusing and I don’t know if it’s the subber’s fault, but I am really confused with all the secrets and stuff. The story line however (the very foundation of the plot of the manga) is quite interesting, which is the very reason why I don’t totally hate the manga just yet. But I don’t know. I still have some chapters to see. One more thing too, I really love the way it is drawn. It’s very Tsubasa Chronicle-ish and xxxHolic-ish, which are both from CLAMP. However, the manga itself is in no way affiliated to CLAMP (4 Japanese women manga artists who created Magic Knight Rayearth, Card Captor Sakura, Angelic Layer, Chobits, etc).
MY VERDICT FOR NOW: I will really have to see whether this is a good read or not before I recommend it to you guys. But judging from the hype I get about the anime, I think the anime would be good. Will watch them too as soon as I finish downloading all the Fairy Tail Episodes I could get my hands into.
I did manage to finish an entire Jdrama this week. The title is First Kiss. I was attracted to it because of the lead character being played by Inoue Mao. Inoue Mao played Tsukushi Makino is Hana Yori Dango (aka Boys Over Flowers or Meteor Garden), and I loved her there, so I thought I might love First Kiss.
The drama is definitely not my favorite, but Inoue Mao’s acting is so great here. Her pure, innocent character in HYD was replaced by a bratty, devilish character in First Kiss. It was a totally different but she played it so well. It was a mark of her versatility as an actress, so I was really impressed.
The story itself is not ordinary, but it’s not that interesting. The story is about Mio (Inoue Mao) who lived in America for 10 years because of her heart condition. One day, the doctors said that they could finally treat her illness, but the operation would have a 50-50 chance of being successful or not. So, Mio decided to ask the doctors to allow her to leave for Japan and stay there for the summer. She wanted to be with her older brother who she hasn’t seen since she flew to the US.
When she was in Japan, she encouraged her brother to love photography again (which he fell in love with because of his picture experience when he and Mio were young), fell in love with a doctor, and influenced a lot people.
The ending was unsatisfactory though.
THE VERDICT: I recommend it to you guys if you’re okay with Shoujo stories. However, this is not an addicting drama, so I guess you can skip this one.
SIDE NOTE: I also watched this because of the doctor. He is so cute. On the picture, he’s the guy with the blue background down below.

This week, I re-fired my love for Fairy Tail. I have watched a few episodes of the anime before, and I totally love the story line. So, I decided to download the entire Fairy Tail Collection, which is kind of impossible because the anime is on-going.
Anyways, I love love love Fairy Tail. This is so far my favorite anime of the year. I was also thinking about downloading the manga. It won manga awards so I guess it should be pretty great. I am still thinking about getting Naruto and Bleach, but man, there’s like a lot of chapters so I guess I might postpone that for now. Or better yet, I’ll start downloading them, and read them when I already have a lot.
Anyway, Fairy Tail is about magic and adventure, something to the likes of Rave Master (which is from the same creator) or One Piece. It’s really cool since you get to see different types of magic. I love the idea of a guild for magicians. Of course, the humor of the anime also appeals to me a lot. I love anything that could make me laugh.
I love this song. It’s light and dreamy. I am currently memorizing the song. It has been on replay for days now.
That’s it for this week’s Episode of Otaku Girl. If there’s an anime, manga, song or Jdrama that you can recommend for me or you request me to look over and do a review on, please let me know by leaving a comment below. You can also tweet and facebook me. All links on the side.
See you guys next week.

Happy hearts day!
Celebrating Valentine’s Day in the Philippines is a little bit corny. We see a lot of people on dates more than usual. Guys give girls flowers, chocolates, jewelry or bears. It’s very usual. This is why I envy how Japanese people celebrate this day of love.
In Japan where everything is cute, you will find that celebrating Valentine’s Day is very cute too. During this day, only girls will be doing something. Usually, they will give homemade chocolates to the guys they like, in the hope that on White Day (which is one month after Valentine’s or March 14), the guy they gave out their chocolate to will give them one back. How cute is that?
There are two types of chocolates given out during Valentine’s though. There’s an obligation chocolate (Giri-choko). This type of chocolate is given to bosses, mentors, colleagues, and male friends. Homemade chocolate (honmei-choko) is a lot more special because it is the one you would be giving to the person you like. You can make some sort of pastry (usually a small cake) out of the chocolate, and wrap it Japanese style (which is, like a boss).
If you do this in the Philippines, it’s like BLEH. The guy you like might not even get the point of why you are giving them chocolates, unless it’s really obvious that you are doing so because you like them. *sigh* How I wish I can give my homemade chocolate to a Japanese guy. kekekeke
Anyways, I don’t really like anyone right now, so I guess I wouldn’t even know who to give my honmei-choko to. Hope you guys are enjoying this day though!
Hi guys. It has been a wonderful week for me. I moderately had anime, manga and Jdrama this week. This means I did not go over the top as much as I did for the past few weeks. Anyways, please check the Otaku page for a complete listing of all the episodes as well as the stuff in them.
1. MANGA: Daa! Daa! Daa!, Shin Daa! Daa! Daa!, Vampire Knights
2. JDRAMA : Kurosagi the Movie
3. ANIME: Nurarihyon no Mago
4. SONG/VIDEO: : Sparky Start – Katate SIZE (Hirano Aya, Horie Yui & Maeda Ai) from Nurarihyon no Mago
Last week, I also read Daa! Daa! Daa! and I just found out that it had a sequel named Shin Daa! Daa! Daa! I did not like the sequel as much as the first manga. The sequel story features the baby in the first manga, only this time, he’s all grown up. It also feature’s his earth parents’ (Miyu and Kanata) daughter Miu, meaning Miyu and Kanata actually ended up with each other. Via a dimensional hole, Miu got sucked to Planet Otto where Ruu lived and they travel back to bring her home. It features just two volumes, and it was like the characters are mirror characters of original characters from the first manga.
THE VERDICT: Read Daa! Daa! Daa! The second manga I think it’s okay to skip.
I haven’t finished this manga so I cannot say if this is one thing I would really keep in my files, but judging from the first few chapters I have already read, I think this would actually be more interesting that Twilight. LOL. Just kidding. No really..
THE VERDICT: Recommended. I’ll do a final verdict next week. I am planning on finishing this this week, especially since I have some time on my hands this week. There are two seasons of anime too, so I guess I’ll check that out too.
You may read last week’s episode for the summary of the series. Anyways, I did not really like the movie that much. An ordinary story of swindling. Very few Maki moments. Plus, the pacing of the story is so slow, I watched it while doing stuff on the internet. I kind of listened to it more than watched it (especially since my Japanese is getting better). It is really quite disappointing because I really liked how smooth the flow of each episodes of the series went.
THE VERDICT: Not really the movie for me. Just watched it for Yamapi-kun.. :3
Yep, I watched it last week, and I watched it this week. I finished all the 26 episodes of this baby. And the good news is, there’s a second season. I actually started watching Nurarihyon no Mago: Sennen Makyou last week but did not include it in this week’s list because I cannot really count them as watching. I browsed the videos by skipping from a minute to another.
I must say, I love the Season 1 to bits! I cannot find anything I hate about this anime, except that I think Season 1 ended too soon. Lucky me too! The day I was finishing the downloads for Season 1, the uploaded uploaded a one-episode special featuring chibi versions of the Nura clan.
Here, let me show you a pic. Well, a couple of pics (I have more, but decided to not show them here).
OMG. Kappa (rightest) is so cute. He’s cute even when not in Chibi form
Gyuki’s Team: Zen, Aotabo, Gozumaru, Sasami
Rikuo’s Team: Yuki-Onna, Kurotabo, Tosakamaru, Kabinashi, Kuromaru
Anyways, I am watching Sennen Makyou, which I think is a bit more serious than Season 1. Let you guys know next week.
THE VERDICT: a must-watch! I love, love, love this anime to bits! It’s amazing!
Oh well, this song is the bomb. With Horie Yui here, I don’t think there’s any way in the world to hate this song. Plus, the video is totally adorable! I also provided the full version of the song since this is just amazing.
THE VERDICT: Love it! I loved Yura-chan (one on the right) the most. Her droopy eyes are cute.
That’s it for this week! Otaku page will be updated very soon, so visit it if you want the complete list of episodes and stuff in each episode.
Catch you guys later!

Oh my God. I have been doing this for more than five weeks now. It seems like I have gone through a lot of mangas, anime, Jrdamas and songs for the past 5 weeks. In fact, I haven’t even finished watching some of the anime I started and I keep skipping to a new one as soon as I read a good review about it. Anyway, thanks for sticking by my blog to see what awesomeness Japan has to offer.
Here’s the stuff for this week.
1. MANGA: Daa Daa Daa
2. JDRAMA: Kurosagi
3. ANIME: Nurarihyon no Mago
4. SONG/VIDEO: Rolling Star – Yui (Bleach)
Daa Daa Daa is also known as UFO Baby. I watched the anime version as a child, but I did not have the chance to actually finish it, so when I saw that there’s a manga version, I did not hesitate to read it. I can’t say much yet because I have just read a few chapters, but I think this baby is going to be totally awesome. The reason why I was so into Beelzebub is because I loved this anime first.
The story is about two students. Miyu was left by her parent to the care of Kanata’s family because her parents had to go to NASA to do research. Kanata’s dad had to leave urgently because he had to go to a special monk training. One day a UFO crashes in their house. The baby and his sitter stays on earth until they can repair the ship. To make things worse, the baby starts calling them mom and dad.
THE VERDICT: Love this! But I think I love Beelzebub more now. It is more eerie and evil. (The more dark, mysterious and evil it is, the more I like it).

I finished 11 45-minute episodes in two nights. That’s how great it is. I also discovered the great acting of Yamapi-kun (main character) and next to Daito Shunsuke who played Kyouya in the live action of Ouran High School Host club, Yamapi-kun (full name Tomohisa Yamashita) is my favorite. He’s a really great actor. He captured the character of Kurosagi really well.
Kurosagi (The Black Swindler) is a story about Kurosaki, a guy who swindles from swindlers. According to the story, there are three types of swindlers: Shirosagi (white swindlers), or people who swindle money through business scams and stuff, Akasagi (red swindlers) or people who use feelings to swindle, and Kurosagi, who feeds on Shirosagi and Akasagi. When he was 15, Kurosaki’s father was swindled by a Shirosagi, and he murdered his family and committed suicide. However, Kurosaki survived. He then went to Katsuragi, a guy who sells information and swindling plans, more commonly termed as a “fixer”. Kurosaki’s aim is to finish off Katsuragi, but in order to do so, he needs experience in swindling from Shirosagi and Akasagi, so for now, he uses Katsuragi as a stepping block.
I can’t say whether there’s a big difference from the manga to the live action, because I haven’t really finished the manga yet, but I can definitely say that even if it does not live up exactly to its manga version, this is still one awesome Jdrama. Also in this drama, you would find Hirokita Maki, the girl who played main lead in the Japanese version of Hana Kimi. I wasn’t really able to follow that certain Jdrama, but I have seen Maki-chan in many other Jdramas and movies and she’s one of the best actresses in Japan.
THE VERDICT: I totally recommend this baby to you too! I will be featuring the movie version in next week’s episode. I have yet to start watching it, but I think it’s going to be totally awesome too.
Side note: BTW, if you’re wondering where I have been watching or downloading all the Jdrama and anime, I will be featuring the websites this week in an Anything Asian edition. Watch out for that. You can also check out the links on the very bottom of this blog page.
I haven’t finished Sorcerer Hunters yet, but I haven’t finished downloading all the episodes, so I can’t really finish them yet. I might try this week, but for now, I am addicted to Nurarihyon no Mago.
I first watched this at Animax last year, but I was unable to follow it, due to the crazy airing time (11PM, Thursdays, WTH?) and I can’t seem to catch the weekend replay versions, so when I found out that I can watch this by downloading, I immediately downloaded and watched. I finished around 12 episodes last night and I am still downloading the rest of the 26 episodes of Season 1. Yep, there is still a season 2, so I will definitely look for that as well.
If you guys didn’t know, Nurarihyon no Mago is an anime based on the manga (I just found that out now too) of the same title. It is a story of Rikuo Nura, the third generation candidate to handle the Nura clan. Rikuo is human, but he inherited from his grandfather, the Supreme Commander of the Yokai, a quarter of Yokai blood. Every night, especially when provoked by an injustice especially towards his clan members, he transforms into his Yokai self – a more mature and more powerful version of himself.
This anime is totally awesome, especially because I have a bias towards characters in ancient Japanese clothes, and with white hair too. White haired guys with reddish eyes are totally evil, and I love them.
THE VERDICT: Highly recommended. It is fairly new, and the story is pretty interesting. Kind of in the likes of Samurai X.
I still watch Bleach at Animax these days and I love the new opening song. This video is the live version, and it is not so different from the non-live version. Yui-chan is simply awesome, I guess.
I have heard this song before and even watched the official MV, which unfortunately for me, is not on Youtube anymore. I love Yui, and there are many anime songs which Yui sang, and I love many of them. She sang the first opening for Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood, and it is an awesome song.
I love the fact that this song is appropriate for Bleach. It is so cool, and it suits the coolness of all the Bleach characters, especially Ishida ♥!
THE VERDICT: Love it!
That’s it for this week’s episode. Check out the new menu named Otaku where you would find the links to all the episodes of this project, along with a short detail of all the stuff there is in each episode.
Catch you guys later!

Sorry if I posted this late. I did have stuff for this week, but I was kind of sick and I kept delaying my post.
Stuff this week:
1. MANGA: Kurosagi
2. JDRAMA: Nodame Cantabile
3. ANIME: Sorcerer Hunters
4. SONG/VIDEO: Mask by Masami Okui and Kasumi Matsumura
Image from http://www.mangafox.com/manga/kurosagi/
I wasn’t really crazy about Kurosagi but it’s a pretty good read this week. Kurosagi is about a swindler who swindles from fellow swindlers. He’s like a knight in shining armor for people who had been fooled by swindlers.
THE VERDICT: It’s okay. I’m not crazy about it, but I guess I’ll try obsessing about it more this week.
SIDE NOTE: It has a movie! With Horikita Maki! I’m seriously going to look for this movie. It has like two movies. And the guy looks like Kim Hyun Joong of SS501.
I love classical music, and so Nodame Cantabile became one of my favorite Jdramas ever. The anime version is longer then the live action drama, but I love the live action better because it feels a lot more real, and it’s definitely cuter.
THE VERDICT: Yes! Watch this! You don’t want to miss this really funny live action. It is absolutely funny and not boring at all!
Sorcerer Hunters is like a blast from the past. I watched it when I was like 7 or 8 and that’s during the 90s. I love 90s classics. Sorcerer Hunters is a story about five magicians who travel around to solve mysterious magic problems.
Their names are plays on food – desserts actually. Carrot Glace, Marron Glace, Gatuea Mocha, Tira Misu, Chocolate Misu.
My favorite character is Tira Misu. She’s this girl with long pink hair and looks very dorky with her big glasses, but transforms into this very sexy lady when she shows her magic.
THE VERDICT: Highly recommended. Especially if you love the 90s anime. Love it!
Because I had been watching Sorcerer Hunters, I love this ending song. It’s absolutely genius and I play it over and over again, my sister and brother is so mad.
THE VERDICT: I love this song. I am actually looking for more songs from the two singers who sang this song.
That’s it for this week! See you guys next week.
